BASKETBALL Unitec Pipes win CABC Corporate Cup crown

Unitec Pipes took home the Cebu Architects’ Basketball Club (CABC) 1st Corporate Cup crown with an 80-75 win over Kalsi in the finals last Sunday at the Benedicto College Gym.

Brian Acebedo exploded for 32 points to guide Unitec Pipes to a title. He also grabbed eight rebounds and had five steals.

Kimkim Rebosura chipped in 16 points along with four steals, while Mark Capili added 10 points to go with seven boards, two steals and a block.

Carlos Baltar had a double-double performanc­e for Kalsi with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Jonathan Suico and Allen Dinola were also in double-digit scoring with 12 each, while Michael Cinco had a little bit of an off game with just 10 points.

Boysen Paints, in the meantime, took third place with a close 81-78 victory over Island Paints.

Five players from Boysen Paints were in double-figure scoring - one of them tallied a triple double, while three had double-double performanc­es.

Darren Morandante logged 14 points, 10 rebounds, 14 assists and three steals for the first recorded triple-double in the tournament. Chester Hinagdanan led the team with 31 points and 11 boards, Chris Manal added 14 points, 10 rebounds and three steals, Ronald Fabian logged 10 points, 10 rebounds, four steals and a block, while George Bangyao added 12 points.

Justin Aspacio had a huge game if 36 points, six rebounds and a steal for Island Paints but came up a bit short. Elmer Laguna added 16 points.
