SOLAR POWER Mactan Rock installs solar panels in facility

Cebu-based bulk water supplier Mactan Rock industries Inc. (MRII) has joined other companies in the installation of solar panels to power their plant in Mactan.

MRII and Macsol Solar Energy on Wednesday signed the contract for the supply and installation of the 32.4-kilowatt solar energy system for MRII Demi Plant, Suba Masulog, Lapu-Lapu City.

MRII chairman Antonio Tompar said that the installation of the solar panel is part of the company’s effort to reduce greenhouse emissions and maximize energy efficiency.

“This will pave the way for better and profitable margin for the company,” said William Maceren, one of the MRII trustees.

MRII’s adoption of solar technology involved a zero cash-out arrangement, and the company would only pay for their monthly consumption based on power generation, said Tompar.

For a 15-year period, the solar panel investment of MRII would give them an estimate of P4.5 million power cost savings.

The 32.4-KW system is equivalent to 448 metric tons reduction of carbon dioxide, savings of 50,525 gallons of gasoline, and planting of 11,514 trees.

Tompar added that the solar panel installation is a test run for them to decide whether they would install a similar setup in their other plants nationwide./
