An 18-year- old Grade 12 student allegedly jumped off the fourth floor of a university along N. Bacalso Ave. last Wednesday morning.

According to PO1 Andy Bayarcal of the Punta Prinsesa Police Station, the student (name withheld) survived and was conscious after he was rushed to a private hospital.

“Eyewitnesses said that he and his girlfriend were having an argument. After a few moments, he ran and jumped off the building,” Bayarcal said.

The Punta police responded after a concerned citizen reported to the station about the incident at 2 p.m. The incident happened at 9 a.m.

Bayarcal said that after the victim and his girlfriend had a misunderstanding, he ran 15 meters down the hallway and jumped off the building.

“The railings were really high, up to the chest area, so we believed that was the reason why he sprinted to be able to jump (over it),” Bayarcal said.

The school principal said that the school took care of the stu- dent after the incident.

“We cared for the student. He still needs to have his legs checked because he fell from the fourth floor,” the principal said.

Supt. Artemio Ricabo, deputy city director for administration and spokesperson of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), said that the hospital told them the student couldn’t walk yet.

Meanwhile, a 43-year-old shoe repairman poured gasoline on himself and lit himself on fire over an alleged love triangle in another incident on the same day in Barangay Apas, Cebu City.

According to Ricabo, the man (name withheld) suffered second degree burns.

“Based on the account of his daughter, the victim and his wife had a fight before her father lit himself,” he said.

The man, Ricabo said, was rushed to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.
