Lapu-Lapu City Traffic Management System officials plots rerouting scheme for procession

The Lapu-Lapu City Government will close the roads that cover the route of the procession for the Señor Santo Niño and Our Lady of Guadalupe going to Nuestra Señora Virgen dela Regla (NSVR) National Shrine on Jan. 20.

For the first time in the history of the fluvial procession, the flotilla will start in Lapu-Lapu.

The images of the Santo Niño and Virigin Mary will be brought to Lapu-Lapu from the National Shrine of Saint Joseph in Mandaue City.

Before the day of the fluvial, the Señor Santo Niño and Our Lady of Guadalupe will be brought to Mandaue City for the Traslacion, which is the union of the Holy Family.

According to the Lapu-Lapu City Traffic Management System (CTMS), all the roads leading to the Lapu-Lapu City Public Market, which is adjacent to NSVR National Shrine, will be closed to road traffic to give way to the procession starting 1:30 a.m.

The procession will start at 3 a.m.

From Mandaue, the religous icons will be received in LapuLapu by Mayor Paz Radaza at the foot of the Mandaue Mactan Bridge in Lapu-Lapu side.

A procession will start from there and will pass on M. L. Quezon Highway, G. Y. Dela Serna St., right turn to S. Osmeña St. going to the NSVR church where a mass will be held before the fluvial procession. The mass will start at 4 a.m. After the mass, the Santo Niño will be brought to the Naval Base Rafael Ramos (NBRR) where the icon of the child Jesus and Mother Mary will be placed in the galleon for the fluvial procession going to Cebu City.

From the NSVR church, the motorcade will go out from the gate beside Saint Alphonsus Catholic School, right turn to F. Martir St., left turn to P. Rodriguez St., right turn to Sitio Locatha in Barangay Looc straight to NBRR.

Radaza said party poppers and firecracke­rs will not be allowed on the route of the procession.

The mayor said that “banderitas” and other decoration­s can be placed on the side of the road.

The CTMS assured that roads will be immediatel­y opened once the procession is done so motorists will not experience traffic in the morning. /
