SINULOG RUN’S FASTEST OFF TO ILOILO NEXT

PSC to bring 60-person training pool to a second fun run in Iloilo City

Prince Joey Lee and Geneicel Saballa flaunted their prowess in the Philippine­s Sports Commission (PSC) Sinulog Fun Run 2018, winning the men’s and women’s 10-kilometer race for 22-Under at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) yesterday.

Lee, a fifth year computer engineerin­g student, dominated the men’s race and breasted the tape in 33 minutes and 37 seconds. His closest pursuers Ruel Algufera and Harold Guiao came in 36:31 and 37:33, respective­ly.

Saballa, meanwhile, won the women’s division after clocking a new 10K personal best of 42:25, eclipsing her previous best of 45:00, which was set in Milo Marathon National Finals one month ago

Melody Perez placed second with 42:47 and Lovely Fe Andrin nabbed third place with 46:25.

The PSC will bring 60 runners—the Top 10 female and Top 10 male in the 10K (22-Under), 5K (16-Under) and 3K (12-Under)-to the second leg of PSC Visayas Open in Iloilo City on Aug. 11.

“This program is good because it has a clear goal for the athletes and it can encourage more aspiring athletes like me to really step up,” said the 21-yearold Lee of Spectrum Runners Club.

Before going to Iloilo City, all the athletes will get a training program and will be trained under John Philip Dueñas, the long-time coach of Olympian and Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Mary Joy Tabal.

“I am looking forward for the second leg it will be a new ex- periences and a chance for me to improve my skills,” said the 19-year-old Saballa of University of San Carlos.

Saballa, a third year education student, said that she idolized Tabal and she’s looking forward to learn from Tabal’s coach.

National junior triathlete Andrew Kim Remolino and Cherry Andrin ruled the men’s and women’s 5K (16-Under) with times of 16:11 and 19:46.

Jhonn Marc Rizon (16:33) and Jovan Bensig (17:00) finished behind Remolino, while Mary Joy Loberanis (20:34) and junior triathlete Karen Manayon (20:45) settled second and third to Andrin.

In the 3K (12-under), Kirk Nanz Alison (12:01) won the boys’ division beating Wendell Andrin by seven millisecon­ds. Yhuan Jidd Tabar (12:09) bagged third place. /
