A GOOD LOOK AT ANINAW, THE EXHIBIT

- CHELZEE G. SALERA / Writer

Avisual artist’s perspective, once realized, is a glimpse into a world created by him. In a single image, hundreds of things are at play bringing about a profound experience and therefore, allowing the audience to pick an artist’s brain while silently studying his works from a distance.

For the month of January, Montebello Villa Hotel is more than just opening its windows. More than a sign of letting good luck in, Montebello started the year right by opening the windows of the soul.

Hosting a group art exhibit created by the University of the Philippines-Cebu Fine Arts alumni entitled “Aninaw” (Glimpse), Montebello indeed started its year right.

“It’s good timing for us because Montebello is especially known for art. It’s an opportunity for us to share our art especially from different batches from UP with different styles and different mediums. Also, January is when lots of guests come, especially for Sinulog,” said Alex Gocotano, one of the exhibitors.

“Aninaw” hopes to impart a view that cannot be put into words.

“Each artist has a different exposure, different background. So we want to show the different perspectives from different artists. We hope to show what this artist sees in his surroundings and how he puts it into the medium. Basically, the work is a peek into the artist’s soul,” said Gocotano.

“Aninaw” features works composed by 15 UP Cebu Fine Arts alumni from different batches: Gocotano, Bernardo Hermoso, Boyet Auditor, Brendon Baclaan, Emmanuel Iradel, J. Roberto Olvido, Jeffrey Sarita, Jonathan Enad, Joseph Luna, Lino Venzal, Pepe Declaro, Pierre Famador II, Rainvelle Gemperoa, Sam Ryan Abenoja and Sergito Pautan.

In addition, to honor Montebello Villa Hotel for its generosity and support for

the local art scene, the artists will be holding an awarding ceremony by the end of the exhibit on Jan. 27 to turn over to the hotel a few paintings created by the exhibitors depicting views from inside the hotel as a gift of gratitude.

The artists will be available in Montebello throughout the month for guests who wish to have their portraits drawn on the spot with varying art activities every week for the whole month of January.
