Duno takes on Suarez in US fight

- EKA

Promising young knockout artist Romero Duno is set to take on Mexican Yardley Suarez on Jan. 27 at The Forum in Inglewood, California in one of the undercard bouts of the Jorge Linares vs. Mercito Gesta fight.

The 22-year-old Duno makes his third fight in the US against Suarez. He made his US debut last year in impressive fashion, knocking out unbeaten upand-comer Christian Gonzalez in two rounds. After the win, Golden Boy Promotions was impressed with his performance and immediately signed him to a contract.

Duno, who’s promoted by Gen. Santos-based promotional outfit Sanman Promotions, followed up his win over Gonzalez with two more wins--a second-round technical knockout of Jason Tinampay in General Santos and a unanimous decision over veteran Juan Pablo Sanchez in Inglewood.

The 22-year-old Suarez’s career has been very inconsistent. He started his career with a 14-1 slate. But after losing to unbeaten Mark Magsayo in the first round , his career has been up and down.

Suarez’s latest fight ended in a fourth-round stoppage to Matt Remillard last October.

Duno is 15-1 with 13 knockouts, while Suarez is 22-9 with 12 knockouts.

In the main event, Gesta, a Cebuano based in California, will face World Boxing Association (WBA) lightweight champion Jorge Linares. /
