Members of the Mactan Cebu Bridge Management Board headed by Gov. Hilario Davide III yesterday discussed the traffic problem. Plans to construct a four-lane underpass and two service roads on both sides from the intersection of U.N. Ave. and Plaridel St. in Mandaue City were presented. Faustino dela Cruz Jr., maintenance head of the Department of Public Works and Highways, said they will still need to identify the road right-of-way and its limits. The agency will finance the project. Albert Tuason of Eastern Communications also presented their proposal to attach fiber optic cables at both bridges that link the mainland to Mactan Island.

The Mactan-Cebu Bridge Management Board (MCBMB) and Gov. Hilario Davide III met yesterday at the Capitol to discuss ways to solve the traffic problem near the bridge.

Members of the MCBMB took turns discussing their proposals on how to solve the problem.

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Maintenance Division Head Engr. Faustino Dela Cruz, Jr. presented their plans on how to make a de- pressed/underpass structure with eight lanes, an underpass with four lanes and two service roads at both sides of the bridge. The structure stretches 620 meters.

Dela Cruz, Jr. said that the DPWH had parcellary survey as their initial activity. A parcellary survey helps identify the roads-right-of-way and their limits.

“We need to establish kung asa dapit ang atong i-acquire nga area because we need to widen the existing roads,” dela Cruz said.

Funding would come from DPWH, if approved.

He said it has a typical design like the N. Bacalso Highway corner F. Llamas St. depressed structure.

When dela Cruz Jr. was asked about the traffic, he said, “There will be traffic, but before we commence with the construction, we need to study how to address the traffic congestion during the construction period.”

Albert Tuason of Eastern Communications also presented their proposal to attach fiber optic cables at both Marcelo Fernan Bridge and Mactan-Mandaue Bridge.
