Starting next month, bus and minibus operators in Cebu will start charging P6 for the first five kms. and P1.20 per succeeding km. to their passengers.

The Cebu Provincial Bus and Minibus Operators Cooperative (CPBMOC) agreed yesterday to start charging the new fare matrix on Feb. 1.

Julieto Flores, CPBMOC president, said they will implement the latest fare matrix due to the increasing diesel prices.

As of yesterday, bus and minibus fares are still P5 for the first five kms. and P1 per succeeding km.

If a passenger from Cebu City wants to take a bus to Carcar City, he or she will pay P48 starting Feb. 1. Currently, the fare is P40.

During a meeting yesterday, he and other members of CPBMOC agreed to terminate their 2015 agreement with the Cebu Provincial Government to minimize their fares to P5 per five kms. and P1 per succeeding km.

witnessed by LTFRB 7 Director Ahmed Cuizon, deputy LTFRB 7 Director Reynaldo Elnar and Atty. Jojo Villa of the Cebu Provincial Legal Office.

Flores said they also agreed with the call of Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III to provide discounted rates to students, senior citizens and persons with disabilities.

Flores said that as much as they want to retain the old fare, the implementation of the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) law and the continuous increase of diesel prices are factors why they decided to follow the current fare matrix imposed by LTFRB.

Flores said they agreed to the 2015 memorandum of agreement to lessen their fares as a “gift” to commuters due to the lower diesel prices then.
