No drug tests yet for City’s traffic enforcers: Tomas
Even if it’s the second time a traffic enforcer was caught in a drug bust, Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña said there is no need to let all the staff of the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) undergo a mandatory drug test.
“There is no need at this point to have everybody tested because one traffic enforcer has committed a violation,” he said.
Joselito “Magu” Cabije, 34, a traffic enforcer of CCTO, who is from Sitio Lawis, Barangay Pasil, and Ronnie Sabanal, 40, were arrested by the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit (RPDEU) 7 and the Drug Enforcement Group-Central Visayas (DEG) 7 in an inn along Imus Ave., last Monday.
Osmeña said that when one gets hired as an employee of the City, he or she will undergo a drug test as a pre-employment requirement.
Aside from it, the Cebu City Office for Substance Abuse Prevention also conducts random drug tests in all offices and departments of City Hall.
Cabije has been serving CCTO since August 2016.
CCTO Operations Chief Francisco Ouano earlier said Cabije’s services have been terminated, which Osmeña also confirmed.
Ouano said no more consideration will be given to Cabije even if he was among survivors of the fire that gutted houses in Barangay Pasil last Sunday.
Osmeña said he only has one policy in running City Hall, which warns all employees that they should not be caught in their illegal acts.
“Just don’t get caught,” he said.
