Wanted: ‘Miss Saigon’ performers, others
Blessed Trinity Achievers Academy will present the Broadway Youth Cebu Summer Musical Theatre Workshop production of the hit Broadway musical “Miss Saigon School Edition” on July 20, 21 and 22. It is the author-approved, licensed adaptation of the Broadway hit “Miss Saigon,” to be performed entirely by students.
This upcoming production will be the culminating activity of the summer workshop.
The workshop is open to performers aged 14 to 18, and up to 25 years old for directors or designers.
This tuition-based workshop is aimed at experienced and passionate young people who want to develop their performing arts skills. The performance track is for high school students no older than 18 years old in July, and will cover topics such as acting techniques for song interpretation, analysis of lyrics in relation to performance, dance techniques, auditioning and musical theater appreciation.
The director / designer track, which is open to young people up to 25 years old who want to develop their skills in stagecraft and theatrical design, will involve a mentorship and guidance from noted theater artists.
A mid-workshop culminating activity will be held on May 20 with a performance at SM Seaside City. Only those who successfully complete the summer workshop training will be eligible for casting in May, leading up to the rehearsal phase.
The workshop, led by Hong Kong-based Cebuano theater teacher Allan Nazareno and Cebu-based theater director Rudy Aviles, is the first of its kind in Cebu.
Workshop registration will start on Jan. 23. Early bird registration will run until Feb. 23; late registration will continue until March 23 or until the slots are filled.
