The clustered group of Barangays Subangdaku, Tipolo and Guizo won the Panagtagbo Festival ritual showdown, beating seven other contingents.

Cluster 1, the winning contingent, also got the award for Best in Costume and Best in Choreography.

Josephus Bihag, officer-in-charge of the City Tourism Office (CTO), said the steps of the dance were well-coordinated and the placement of props was good, which were the reasons Cluster 1 won the Panagtagbo Festival.

The 27 barangays of Mandaue were clustered into eight contingents. Each contingent was given over P100,000 as subsidy by the City Government.

“Ang nakapahugyaw nila kay ang dako nga rosary nga nisiga (What makes the performance stunning was the big rosary that was lighted),” said Bihag.

Cluster 4 (Barangays Alang-alang, Umapad, Labogon) and Cluster 3 (Barangays Cambaro, Looc and Opao) were the first runner-up and second runner-up for the ritual showdown, respectively.

Cluster 3 also won Best in Andas, while Cluster 4 got the Best in Street Dancing award.

The lead dancer of Cluster 4 was named as the Panagtagbo Festival Queen 2018.

Cluster 1 and Cluster 3 were named as 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up for the festival queen category, respectively.

Panagtagbo was just among of the activities in Mandaue City last Friday.

On the same day, heavy traffic was experienced in the city.

A. Del Rosario St. and a portion of S. B. Cabahug St. were closed to traffic for the street dancing competition. These streets were closed around 2 p.m. The street dancing started at 4 p.m.

Glenn Antigua, chief for operations of the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (Team), said it was not the Panagtagbo alone that caused the traffic because they immediately opened the roads after the last contingent had performed.

Team expected that traffic would be heavy in Mandaue last Friday afternoon because people were leaving the city for the weekend.

Antigua said party-goers of LifeDance Festival also contributed to the traffic because some of their cars were parked on the roads. As a result, Team issued citation tickets to around 100 party-goers who parked illegally on that day. /
