Reading the Bible

- Chito E. Germino of Paknaan, Mandaue City

Reading the Bible is better than going to church. You can acquire more wisdom and knowledge in reading the Bible than listening to a preacher. You need only fear and reverence for the Lord in order to please him.

Reading a good biblical passage is much more worthwhile and rewarding. Try reading this part of Proverbs:

“Listen! Wisdom is calling out in the streets and marketplaces, calling loudly at the city gates and wherever people come together. Foolish people! How long do you want to be foolish? How long will you enjoy making fun of knowledge? Will you never learn? Listen when I reprimand you; I will give you good advice and share my knowledge with you...”

Even Jesus Christ himself does not encourage going to church to pray or worship God. He gives emphasis to home prayer or secret worship. He said:

“When you pray do not be like the hypoctites. They love to stand up and pray in the houses of worship and in the street corners, so that everyone will see them. I assure you, they have already been paid in full...But when you pray, go to your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father who sees what you do in private, will reward you.”

Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. His true teachings should be the one given weight. The truth shall set you free from hypocrisy. So stop listening to the hypocrites. Listen to your clean conscience.--
