Mandaue City starts printing of 5-year driver’s license cards
The Land Transportation Office-Mandaue City Licensing Center (LTO-MCLC) in JCentre Mall can now issue a driver’s license that’s valid for five years.
Mandaue is the only place in Cebu that has the new system, which can immediately issue the new driver’s license.
The roll-out of the new cards was held in MCLC last Thursday afternoon. A ceremonial printing of the new card was done during the event.
Mayor Gabriel Luis Quisumbing was the first to try the new system, which can produce a driver’s license in just five minutes.
Here’s how it works: First, the MCLC staff encodes the applicant’s data. Biometric data, which include fingerprints and digital signature, will be taken. The driver’s license will then be printed.
When the mayor tried the new system, it took him only six minutes to get his driver’s license. There were corrections made on the details encoded, which caused a one-minute delay.
Quisumbing was with Vice Mayor Carlo Fortuna, Councilor Carmelino Del Mar Jr., LTO 7 Assistant Regional Director Alita Pulga and MCLC chief Cynthia Duterte during the roll-out of the new driver’s license card.
Duterte said it is important that the applicant must personally visit the MCLC because they have to provide their biometric data.
For now, the MCLC can only accommodate new applicants as well as those who have renewed their license in Mandaue but were given a temporary identification card since the licensing center has some backlogs.
In his speech, Quisumbing said the new system shows LTO’s commitment to serve the Mandauehanons better.
“Ang validity nga five years, it’s really worth the wait,” he said.
Pulga thanked Quisumbing for his suggestion to transfer the MCLC to a mall because the area is more comfortable.
