CPDRC warden to restore inmates’ visitation rights

Visitation and conjugal rights of the detainees of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) will be reinstated on Monday.

But acting CPDRC warden Roberto Legaspi denied that this was due to the petition filed by the detainees against him last week.

“I don’t care what they say. I’m not pressured. If they have a case against me, file it. If they want me out, they go straight to the governor,” he said. Legaspi believes that a high-profile suspect was behind the petition against him.

Legaspi earlier suspended the visitation privileges and conjugal rights of CPDRC inmates after 26 packs of suspected shabu and illegal drug paraphernalia were recovered in some cells in an inspection last week.

Legaspi said he only suspended the visitation and conjugal rights as he wanted to check what hap- pened to the security measures he prepared when he was still acting jail warden last year.

Following the reinstatement of the detainees’ visitation and conjugal rights, Legaspi added security measures in the jail in- cluding strict inspection of all vehicles entering the facility.

Despite what he encountered on his return as acting warden, Legaspi said he remains adamant that no contraband should enter the facility during his watch./
