Andrew Kim Remolino, Moira Frances Erediano win male and female youth triathlete of the year awards

Cebu’s junior triathletes Andrew Kim Remolino and Moira Frances Erediano were feted in the 5th Annual SBR SwimBikeRun.PH Awards at the Century City Mall in Makati City last Saturday.

Remolino of Rider Omega Triathlon Team bagged the Male Youth Triathlete of the Year Award, while Erediano of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu won the Female Youth Triathlete of the Year plum.

Both Remolino and Erediano were first time winners in the annual award done through online nomination and voting at SwimBikeRun.PH.

“I’m very thankful that I won. I did not expect to win because it’s a voting system and most of the nominees were from Manila and are known triathletes,” said the 17-year-old from Talisay City Remolino.

The other nominees in the Male Youth Triathlete of the Year were Juan Francisco Baniqued, Juan Miguel Tayag, Josh Ramos and Marcus Faytaren.

Lapu-Lapu City’s Erediano, 13, said that the award inspires her to strive and train more for upcoming events.

“I’m very happy and I did not expect it. The other nominees are members of the junior national team and are known triathletes. I can’t believe that there a lot that voted for me online. I’m super thankful to God for the blessing” said Erediano.

The nominees in the Female Youth Triathlete of the Year were Angel Faith Quidasol, Karen Andrea Manayon, Lauren Justine Plaa and Samantha Borlain.

Remolino, a student of Paref Springdale School, said that he’s thankful to those who voted for him. Remolino has represented the country in 2017 as a member of the junior national team. Erediano of Lapu-Lapu City has also won a number of national and international races.

The Cobra Ironman 70.3 Philippines held in Cebu in August last year also received an award. The international event was awarded as the Race of the Year for the fifth straight year.

The 2017 attracted more than 2,500 participants for the 1.9-kilometer swim, 90K bike and 21K run race, which covered the cities of Lapu-Lapu, Mandaue, Cebu and Talisay.

Manayon, on the other hand, will be receiving the Tony Siddayao Award for Triathlon in the Philippines Sports Association (PSA) 2018 Awards Night in Manila Hotel on Feb. 27. /
