Businessman Edgardo Orquia Ruelo was accused of raping his ex-girlfriend, who is a former village official in a northern town of Cebu, on several occasions last year

A 50-year-old businessman who allegedly raped his former girlfriend was arrested in Sitio Fatima, Barangay Jubay, Liloan, Cebu at 8:30 p.m. last Saturday.

Chief Insp. Randy Korret, the town police commander, identified the accused as Edgardo Orquia Ruelo, who had been listed as the most wanted person in Liloan.

Korret said the accused’s alleged victim was his ex-girlfriend, a former village official in a northern Cebu town. Ruelo did not resist arrest.

The rape allegedly happened on several occasions last year.

The arrest was based on a warrant of arrest issued by Cebu City Regional Trial Court Branch 58 Judge Ma. Lynna Adviento last July 12, 2017.

No bail was set for the accused’s temporary liberty.

The arrest, which was a joint operation by the tracker teams of Liloan and Tabuelan police stations led by Korret and Insp. Emmanuel Rabaya, came after a month-long surveillance on the suspect.

Ruelo was detained in Liloan Police Station and he will be brought to the court, which then will issue an order transferring him to a Bureau of Jail Management and Penology facility. /
