IT SHOULD NOT BE JUST A PROM DRESS
The beauty of clothes will always and forever be their power to express the wearer’s personality, emotions and current mood without saying a word. For prom season, what better way to express than with the dress of one’s dreams?
Finding the right dress is just the same as finding the perfect match—corny as it may seem. The look, the feel, the fit of it is important. In fact, being fussy does wonders because in the end, all that searching will be worth the wait.
Designers Mikhail Achas and Andrea De La Torre create pieces that tell of the season and with it, its subtle charms.
Called “Stroll in the Park,” Andrea’s inspiration, apart from the season of love, were freedom of movement, subtle florals and muted tones.
“The goal, really, was to showcase free-spirited options for ladies who wanted to be able to move and live in their gowns. Most of my garments allow for the wearer to be elegant yet comfortable in their second skin,” she said. Often drawn to subtle shimmer, airy and other kinds of fabrics including those with bohemian aesthetics, Andrea is usually drawn to fabrics she comes across before coming up with silhouettes perfect for them.
For Mikhail, this collection was all about exploration, getting in touch with his experimental side.
“I wanted to do a minimal capsule collection in dark tones. It’s the exact opposite of what I usually do. I wanted to explore my range to see if I can broaden my spectrum in terms of design,” he said. Contrasting dark romantic tones with stiff solid lines, Mikhail achieves crafting designs with a soft feel to rigid elements.
These collections were inspired by movement and romance, and crafted with the promise of elegance; worthy of looking back on what was part of a memorable night. Because, it all starts with the dress.
