Four locals beat hundreds of other competitors from different parts of the country
Castrol Philippines concluded its 2017 Partner for Life Program at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City, awarding Cebu-based mechanics from Drake’s Motor Parts as the 2017 Castrol Mechanics of the Year.
Beating over 100 teams from across the country, mechanics Julius Maranga, Georekey Cantabaco, Gabriel Hidalgo Jr. and business owner John Ceniza were hailed the winners of the 2017 competition.
Determined to help their motorcycle business succeed and to further develop their skills as motorcycle mechanics, the quartet began their Partner for Life journey in 2015. Despite the unsuccessful attempts in 2015 and 2016, the team eventually took home the title of Philip- pine Champion Mechanics 2017 through the skills and teamwork they have developed, as displayed over this year’s exciting grand finale.
Investing tremendous amounts of time and effort over the past three years, the team gained a comprehensive understanding of two-wheeler mechanics, the use of oils, customer handling, and motorcycle maintenance through the tests, courses and challenges specially designed by Castrol.
“Before we even get to open the shop in the morning, there’s always a long line of customers, waiting to have their motorcycle serviced,” said Maranga, chief mechanic of Drake’s Motor Parts.
As this year’s Castrol Mechanics of the Year title holders, Team Cebu will continue to train with Castrol to represent the Philippines at the 2018 Castrol Asia Pacific Mechanic contest to be held in Bangkok, Thailand.
