The Cebu Provincial Government has terminated the services of two nurses assigned at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) after they were caught smuggling contraband inside the jail.

Dr. Rene Catan, Provincial Health Office ( PHO) head, confirmed they terminated the services of two nurses, who were job order employees.

The two nurses were caught by police officers assigned at the CPDRC smuggling contraband since January until this month.

Among those found in their possession during a body search were 145 lighters, 40 newly bought SIM cards, six headsets, 10 shoe glue and 17 alkaline batteries.

Catan said despite the reasons presented by the two nurses, they won’t tolerate such deeds.

Only four nurses are left working at CPDRC. Catan said they are still in the process of replacing the two nurses.

Meanwhile, A high-value target, who yielded more than P90, 000 worth of shabu, was arrested by the Cebu City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU) in Sitio Bato, Carbon, Barangay Ermita yesterday afternoon.

Benjamin Basnillo, 51, was caught with 160 small sachets of shabu during an anti-illegal drugs operation at 3:15 p.m.

Operatives acted on a complaint of a concerned citizen about the illegal drug trade in the area.

The shabu weighed eight grams with the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) value of P94, 400.
