2 DEAD, 10 HURT IN TOLEDO CRASH

Two died while 10 were injured in a road crash in Barangay Don Andres Soriano, Toledo City yesterday dawn.

In an initial investigation by the Toledo police, the six-wheeler truck, which Roswel Sumbilon, 49, drove, was full of vegetables and was going from Carbon Market to the markets in Toledo City and Balamban.

As Sumbilon was maneuvering a steep slope that also curved, the truck went out of control and fell on its side.

“Our initial investigation showed the failure of the brake system of the truck, which led the driver to lose control over the vehicle,” SPO3 Jimmylon Cotmaya of the Toledo police said.

Maria Bantoy, 52, and Antonieta Villarmia, 53, were rushed to a nearby hospital, but were declared dead.

The injured were identified as Salome Olasiman, 51, from Buanoy, Balamban; Elmer Salondagit, 27, of Owak, Asturias; Lita Pinol, 51, from Prenza, Balamban; Engracio Lato, 50, of Luka, Balamban; Generose Pinol, 8, Gloria Abalde, 56, from Buanoy, Balamban; Romeo Loyola, 45, of Matab- ang, Toledo City; Michael Pardillo, 20, of Prenza, Balamban; and Alona Albon, 16 from Prenza, Balamban.

Sumbilon is detained in Toledo Police Station awaiting the filing of charges of double homicide, multiple physical injuries and damage to properties through reckless driving. /
