CLFAS exhibit in SM Seaside

-

Over 240 lanterns and more than a hundred scrolls showcasing traditional Asian designs hand-painted by the Chan Lim Family of Artists and Students (CLFAS) are on display from Feb. 11 to 24 at the Mountain Wing atrium of SM Seaside City Cebu.

On the same day as the launch of the exhibit, and in time for the week of Chinese New Year, CLFAS held a free workshop where several children from different schools around Cebu as well as children with disabilities (from the Philippine Accessible Disability Service Inc.) were introduced to Chinese brush painting techniques that CLFAS had acquired from almost half a century of engaging in the arts. About 45 artists took part in the event.

“You don’t need talent. You only need passion,” said Alex Chan Lim, one of the CLFAS artists from the second generation of Chan Lims, who flew to Cebu to share his artistic knowledge.

The Chan Lim Family of Artists have classes in their family studio located in Pasig City but also travel across the country to conduct numerous art exhibits, workshops, seminars and on-the-spot painting demonstrations— sharing their use of a multitude of media, styles, and techniques that incorporate Western into Eastern art with subjects that have included flora, fauna, landscape and portraits.

As one of the few remaining notable Chinese brush painting artists in the Philippines, their paintings are sought after and can be found in various private collections across the world.
