Lapu police say they received information that the former Agus village chief had business-related concerns. Police have yet to identify the culprit behind the fatal shooting, but believe it was done by a professional gunman.

The Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LCPO) is looking into a business-related rivalry or personal grudge as possible motives in the fatal shooting of former Agus barangay captain Remigio “Bo” Oyao last Sunday evening.

Supt. Rey Tiempo, LCPO deputy city director for administration, said that business rivalry is one of the main angles they are looking into.

Oyao owned a sand and gravel, and construction materials business.

“We all know that Lapu-Lapu City and Cordova are fast growing. Among nakita nga grabe ang kompetisyon (Business competition there is cutthroat),” said Tiempo.

Chief Insp. Mark Gifter Sucalit, chief of the LCPO-City Intelligence Branch, said they received information that Oyao had concerns related to his business.

“The killing of Oyao was wellplanned. A professional gunman killed him,” he added.

LCPO assured that they are looking into all possible angles of the attack, including illegal drugs.

According to Tiempo, though, they did not receive recent information that the former barangay captain was involved in the illegal drug trade.

“For the past months, successive and continuous ang iyang reporting diri. We can say nga morag medyo lie-low na man siya,” he said.

LCPO has not yet identified the person who killed Oyao, who was on his way home when the ambush happened in Agus.

Oyao was driving his pick-up truck when a man on a motorcycle approached and shot him several times.

The former barangay captain facilitated the surrender of three of his brothers when the National Government started Oplan Tokhang in 2016.

Washington, Oyao’s older brother, was shot dead outside his store in Agus in the same year. /
