Struggling Global hopes to bounce back in AFC Cup

- EKA

Despite failing to win in its previous matches, Global Cebu FC is still optimistic about coming back strong in its campaign in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup.

“We haven’t won yet in this group so that alone is a motivation. The players are very proud and they don’t need too much encouragement anymore because in our past three games we didn’t do so well. I think tomorrow you’ll see that they’ll really be hungry to get the win and we hope we can get the three points tomorrow (today),” Global Cebu FC goalkeeper and skipper Patrick Deyto said.

Global Cebu FC faces Group G leader Yangon United FC in a rematch, this time at home at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila.

“We are at the bottom of the table. We really need to get three points tomorrow no matter what. It’s very difficult. We must get as much points as we can and see where we go to from there,” said Deyto.

Global Cebu FC sits at the bottom of the Group G with just a point. Yangon United FC is at the top with nine points, followed by Bali United FC is second with four points and then FLC Thanh Hoa at third with three points.

Global Cebu FC dropped its opener to FLC Than Hoa, 1-0, in Hanoi. Its second match was a 1-1 draw with Bali United FC at home, while its third match was a 3-0 defeat to Yangon United FC.

“We can’t afford to drop points in this state of competition. The focus is to really do what we can to give more at home. We want the three points. It’s a very important game tomorrow,” said Global Cebu FC head coach Marjo Allado. /
