Access road in Inayawan eyed to decongest Mambaling traffic
Road near old Inayawan Sanitary Landfill that connects to the South Road Properties will be make accessible to motorists, says city official
The Cebu City Government is planning to open a new access road for motorists in the south to ease the traffic congestion in the area while construction of the multi-billion underpass project is still ongoing.
Councilor Dave Tumulak said they are planning to make the road near the old Inayawan Sani- tary Landfill that connects to the South Road Properties (SRP) accessible to motorists.
From N. Bacalso Ave., southbound vehicles will have to take a left turn to F. Jaca St., left turn to White Road in Barangay Inayawan, passing the side of the old landfill and use the portion of SRP to exit along Cebu South Coastal Road.
Tumulak said the alternative route will be open to south-bound vehicles during the peak hours in the afternoon and city proper bound vehicles in the morning.
“This is in preparation if in case the traffic situation along N. Bacalso will get worse due to the underpass construction, this is an alternative,” he said.
Mayor Tomas Osmeña is already aware of the proposal.
“We consider it as a rush project because we want to relieve the traffic,” he said.
Tumulak said the Department of Engineering and Public Works will evaluate the road and undertake road maintenance if needed for the safety of the motorists.
Also yesterday, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 7 and the contractor of the underpass project announced that Caimito St., one of the two access roads being used after portion of N. Bacalso Ave. was closed, will not be accessible starting today.
However, due to the limited time that the closure will take effect, Tumulak said he agreed to postpone the closure.
We consider it as a rush project because we want to relieve the traffic.
