Riding-in-tandem ‘silent’ since ban started
Since the ordinance banning face covers for motorcycle riders in Mandaue City was implemented, the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) has not recorded any incident that involved riding-in-tandem culprits as of yesterday.
Senior Supt. Roberto Alanas, director of MCPO, said they are also doing interventions to deter crimes perpetrated by riding-in-tandem assailants.
Alanas acknowledged the big help of the Mandaue City ordinance that prohibits the use of bonnets and other face coverings for motorcycle riders as a means to curb crime.
The strict implementation of the ordinance started last Monday.
“Wala. Takot na sila eh (We did not record any crime related to riding-in-tandem suspects since this week started. The criminals are now afraid),” he said.
As part of the crime prevention, Alanas said more checkpoints have been regularly done within the city.
As a result of the road checks, he said, several persons on motorcycles were caught with illegal drugs, bladed weapons and guns.
“Meron akong ginagawa’ng intervention dito na during rush hour makikita nyo yung pasukan nagkalat ang mga police natin. Nandyan ang mobile patrol. Nandyan yung lahat ng visibility nang police kasi yan yung araw at oras na pasukan ng mga tao. Ganon din sa hapon (We deploy our personnel during rush hours),” said Alanas.
MCPO also deployed detective beat patrols (DDBP), which is composed of civilians who served as partners of the police officers.
The MCPO director said these DDBP members have motorcycles, so if there is a shooting or robbery incident involving perpetrators on motorcycles, they can ran after the culprits together with the police officers assigned in the area.
Alanas said MCPO has also been strict in the implementation of curfew in Mandaue.
