Grab donates 200 vests to Cebu City volunteers

-

Grab Philippines yesterday turned over some 200 reflective vests for security volunteers under the Cebu City’s peace and order program.

In an interview, Grab spokesperson and public affairs head Leo Gonzales said the donation is part of their thrust to help local government units with their security and transport needs.

“We want to be able to be part and parcel of the growth and strengthening of the institutions of Cebu City. Cebu City is a very important market and city for us. Our partnership with Cebu is very strong,” he said.

Gonzales said they decided to donate the vests as these will provide a level of security and recognition, especially for security volunteers.

The vests were received by City Administrator Nigel Paul Villarete and Assistant City Administrator Annabeth Cuizon on behalf of the City Government.

“Basically, (these will be) for the traffic enforcers. We’re also discussing with the barangays for the allocation of vests. I think we have to welcome this opportunity and all the support our private partners are doing, giving to us,” Villarete said.

The city administrator said there is a need for cooperation between the public and private sectors to ensure the development of the city.

“We have an existing partnership with them (Grab) on how government services on transportation can be assisted through their systems. There’s an ongoing study. We’re discussing our ideas on how we can improve the systems so that we will have better use of our resources, especially the vehicles,” he said.

Villarete said they are also on the initial stage of discussing with Grab a probable carpooling service. However, he declined from going into details until they can sort out the project.

Meanwhile, Grab Cebu senior city manager Raymond Dejan said they are prioritizing barangays located along the road as recipients of the reflective vests.

“Basically, if kinsa ang nanginahanglan, we will provide. Barangays Guadalupe, Banilad something like that. Depends on pila ilang kinhanglan, we will provide,” he said. /
