Sorongon climbs 45 floors in 16 minutes

Cebu’s elite runner Ruffa Sorongon showed that she’s a force to be reckoned even in a different terrain after topping the women’s division of the 1st Vertical Run 2018 at the Tower 1 of Horizon 101 in General Maxilom Avenue, Cebu City yesterday.

Sorogonon, a Sultan Kudarat native, traversed the stairs of tallest building in Cebu, starting from ninth floor to 55th floor and vice-versa in 16 minutes, 30.90 seconds to capture the Full Challenge Category-A title.

Lovely Fe Andrin finished at second place with a time of 17:01.06 followed by Glee Marie Largo at 18:04.12.

Kenyan Joseph Mururi, meanwhile, was the usual force as he ruled the men’s Full Challenge Category-A in 12:19.73 over Lawrence Furo and Kering Eliud, who timed 12:45 and 12:46, respective­ly.

The tandem of Michael Largo and Ian Refuela won the Category-B relay in 11:12, the duo of Jose Baguio and Jayson Lopido finished at second place in 11:48, while Ariel Saballa and Azlan Pagay came in 12:07 for third place.

In the Fun Climb category, Sherwin Manasil Moh ran from ninth floor to 35th floor and vice-versa in 9:00.08 and snagged the men’s division title. Earl Peonila placed second in 9:01.71 and Paul James Zafico finished third in 9:36.79.

Cherry Andrin dominated the women’s division with a time of 10:59.28. Kay Razel Cundangan came second in 12:30.08 while triathlete Jade Abellana settled third in 12:41.54. /
