Private haulers in charge of Cebu City’s garbage disposal need to do something about the smell while trucks transport the waste to a private landfill in the southwestern town of Aloguinsan.

contractor to take appropriate measures to minimize the odor and prevent spills.

“I will work on that. Thank you for that request. I will have the haulers cover the garbage,” Mayor Tomas Osmeña said.

In a separate interview, John Paul Gelasque, assistant department head of the City’s Department of Public Services, said drivers and loaders of garbage trucks usually cover the waste they’re transporting to the landfill.

“From the transfer station to Aloguinsan, the trucks are covered. But we also need to consider that garbage will stink,” he said in Cebuano.

Gelasque said the contractor, Pasajero Motors Inc. (Pamocor), has already addressed the matter.

But he said they will still compel Pamocor to take additional measures and to make sure the garbage is secured while on the road.

Pamocor makes at least 40 trips to the landfill in Aloguinsan daily.
