Identity of Emil Go’s gunman still unknown
Police still have to identify who killed former Talisay City councilor Emil Go, a week after the attack happened inside his family compound.
Insp. Inar Vic Florece, Talisay City deputy police chief, told reporters that they interviewed Go’s family but their testimonies failed to help unmask the culprit.
Go, 69, was with three friends outside his house in Mansueto Village, Barangay Bulacao when the gunman, who arrived in a white car, shot him last March 21.
Florece said the police are having difficulty solving the killing because Go’s family members said that they have no idea if the slain councilor had received any death threat before the attack.
Despite the statement of the Police Regional Office 7 that Go was included in the watchlist of suspected illegal drug players and gamblers, Florece said his office could not rule out the possibility that Go’s murder may be related to a personal grudge.
Florece lamented that the CCTV footage provided by the family of Go also failed to help in identifying the culprit.
The police official denied speculations that law enforcers may be behind Go’s killing because of the high-powered firearm used, which was an assault riffle.
“That’s mere speculation. Anyone can acquire a long firearm. During our Oplan Silhig (March 24) in Barangay Manipis, we confiscated a high-powered firearm from a civilian,” Florece added. /
