-

Don Bosco Boys Home (DBBH) surged to the top of the Hyundai Cup 2018 Champions League following two wins yesterday at the Fr. Julian Hernando Football Field of the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHSAdC).

DBBH handed defending champion SHS-AdC its first loss of the tournament, 1-0. Bernard Montecino scored the match’s lone goal.

DBBH’s other win was early in the morning, a close 3-2 win over Great Oak Manor (GOM) of Manila. Michael Sinoy, Jaire Tanjay and John Ciadra scored for DBBH. Ian Chua and Oliver Grensen scored for GOM, a Manila-based club mentored by Darren Hartmann.

SHS-AdC earlier in the morning gave Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) its first loss.

Kiann Partosa hit the only goal of SHS-AdC’s 1-0 win over rival DBTC.

DBTC, however, bounced back with a 4-0 victory over Abellana National School (ANS). Yuan Reña, Josh Asignar, Charles Unabia and Vaughn Pacaña scored for DBTC.

After a win-less first day, Paref-Springdale snagged two wins yesterday. Paref-Springdale blanked ANS, 3-0, and squeaked past GOM, 1-0.

Luis Roxas scored a brace, while Gahum Pantinople had a goal for Paref-Springdale’s win over ANS. Gian Pastrana hit Paref-Springdale’s only goal in its win against GOM.

DBBH is at the top of the tournament with 10 points. DBTC is second with nine points and has a slight edge over third place with SHS-AdC. Paref-Springdale is fourth with four points but is already out of contention. ANS is fifth with two points and GOM is last with a point.

With still one match left each, DBBH, DBTC and SHSAdC are still in the running for the top two spots that will play for the finals today. The third and fourth ranked squads play for third place in a penalty shootout.
