850 KILOS OF BLASTED FISH SEIZED IN PASIL

The boxes of fish, which cost P200 per kilo, came from Zamboanga City. The haul is the biggest shipment the Cebu City Bantay Dagat Commission has intercepted so far this year.

Around 850 kilos of blasted fish worth P170,000 were confiscated Wednesday night by the Cebu City Bantay Dagat Commission (CCBDC) in Pasil Fish Port.

CCBDC executive director Michael Guerra said that the blasted fish came from Zamboanga City and was the biggest shipment intercepted this year so far.

Guerra estimated the fish to cost P200 per kilo.

CCBDC along with the three police officers stopped the distribution of the blasted fish upon its arrival at the port.

A fish inspector from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) confirmed that the fish was caught using dynamite.

Guerra said the commission will be filing complaints against the driver of the truck that transported the boxes of blasted fish for violating Section 92 (fishing through explosives, noxious or poisonous substance) of Republic Act 10654, otherwise known as the Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998.

Guerra identified the truck driver as Aljamar Hosen Rosales, who hails from Zamboanga City.

“We did not detain the driver since no case was filed against him yet. But we will be filing a case against him,” he said.

Guerra said they can’t file a case against the owners of the fish because they are not yet identified.

Since most of the confiscated fish were still fit for human consumption, CCBDC turned these over to charitable institutions. /
