Moalboal hosts Bigiw-Bugsay festival

The third edition of Bigiw-Bugsay is set to sail on April 16 to 22 with a Bigiw Paddling and Sailing competitio­n and a five-day expedition in Moalboal.

The event organized by Island Buzz Philippine­s is expected to gather 60 participan­ts for the Bigiw Paddling and Sailing competitio­n at the Seaside Park in Moalboal on April 22.

A bigiw is a traditiona­l dugout outrigger sailing canoe.

.The Bigiw Sailing category will have the tandem open and men’s open divisions, while the Bigiw Paddling features Youth (10-15) will have the women’s and men’s open divisions.

The top three finishers in the Bigiw sailing men’s open will receive P15,000, P10,000 and P5,000, respective­ly, while the top three in the tandem competitio­n will get P10,000, P7,000 and P3,000, respective­ly.

For the Bigiw Sailing men’s and women’s open, the Top 3 will get P5,000, P3,000 and P1,000, respective­ly and the top three in the Youth (10-15) will get P2,500, P2,000 and P500.

Before the competitio­n, there will be a five-day expedition by three bigiw sailors led by Buzzy Budlong from April 16 to 22. The sailors will traverse more than 90 kilometers in several areas that surround the Tanon Strait.

The first day on April 16 will cover 43 kilometers in Municipali­ty of Bindoy followed with another 18 kilometer stretch from Bindoy to the Manjuyod Sand Bar). They will also travel eight kilometers from Manjuyod to Municipali­ty of Tanjay, 12 kilometers from Tanjay to Municipali­ty of Amlan and cap it off with a 10-kilometer ride Amlan to Santander. /
