An idea for CHAC
FLIMSY. Somebody from the Cebu City Historical Affairs Commission (CHAC) gave a very flimsy reason why there was no reenactment of the Tres de Abril uprising when the city observed last week the anniversary of that Spanish-era battle. The official said they couldn’t tap students as reenactment actors because they were so busy with their final exams as well as preparations for commencement ceremonies.
RESIDENTS. To me, the problem of the reenactment casting could have been solved had they tapped some talented Tres de Abril residents themselves. I know the youth in the area are more than willing to appear in the reenactment because it tells about the historic event in their very own place.
OBLIGATORY. So for next year’s Tres de Abril battle commemoration, CHAC should tap those talented residents in the area, particularly those from the barangay where they reside. I suggest that the reenactment be an obligatory one, just like what the Talisay City Government is doing every March 26, the anniversary of the “Takas sa Talisay, Kagawasan sa Sugbo.” It reminds us of the landing of the American liberation forces on the shores of Talisay at the end of World War II in 1945.
HOPE. I hope CHAC will consider this humble idea. I’m not criticizing them for not staging this year’s Tres de Abril battle reenactment. I’m only saying that their alibi is so flimsy. After all, there’s an allocation or budget for the annual observance. If the students aren’t available, then tap other people.
