Mandaue to tear 300 homes down for new roads

-

A total of 300 structures in Barangays Alang-alang and Subangdaku in Mandaue City will be demolished on Monday, April 16, to pave the way for the construction of new roads.

Officials held a pre-demolition conference in the City Housing and Urban Development Office (Hudo) yesterday afternoon, making sure that organizations of the soon-to-be affected homeowners were made aware of the development.

Tony Pet Juanico, head of Hudo, said there will be 27 structures in Subangdaku and 273 structures in Alang-alang that will be affected.

The opening of new roads is a city project that was long approved by the City Council, which had approved then councilor Diosdado Suico’s proposal in 2011 yet.

For Alang-alang, the new road will be from D. M. Cortes St. (formerly Plaridel St.), near Mount Olives Christian School up to United Nations (UN) Ave., beside St. Peter Memorial Chapel.

For Subangdaku, Juanico said, the new road will be from behind the Cebu North Bus Terminal up to Subangdaku National High School.

“The mayor wants a road network in case of untoward incidents. Makasud dayon ang bombero (Firefighters would get in faster),” he said. The Hudo official also believes the new road network in Alang-alang will ease traffic congestion on UN Ave.

Juanico said that the families were given financial assistance. Each of them received P10,000. A relocation site in Danao City was offered, he said, but the residents find that too far.
