Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) will launch the new edition of the World War II classic by Col. Manuel F. Segura, Tabunan The Untold Exploits of the Famed Cebu Guerillas in WW II on April 20 at 4:30 p.m. at the Casa Gorordo Museum.

The first edition came out in 1975, and was long out of print.

In the critical introduction of Dr. Resil B. Mojares in the latest edition, he said that the book is “an attempt to put under one cover some of the action immediately before the war, during the invasion, the formation and growth of the resistance movement and some of the battles and adventures of the heroes born under this movement. This is a humble effort to describe and preserve for posterity what Cebu has done to help drive the invaders from this land.”

The 2018 edition includes not only the addition of a critical introduction by Dr. Mojares, but also the annotations done by Dr. Erlinda K. Alburo, who also edited the new release.

Thus, 40 pages have been added to the original, with now 108 references.

Dr. Alburo said that the “famed” in the title is due to two things attributed to the Cebuano guerillas: 1) more Japanese soldiers were killed in Cebu than anywhere else in the country; and 2) the discovery of the Koga papers off the shores of San Fernando changed the direction of the war and put an end to it earlier than expected.

The author, Col. Segura, was third lieutenant in the infantry in the United States Armed Forces in the Far East, and joined the resistance movement after USAFFE’s defeat upon Japan’s invasion.

As adjutant general of the guerillas, he was intimately informed on the major operations of the Cebu Area Command.

Tabunan is the second offering of the Research & Publication division of the RAFI Culture & Heritage unit, and the first book released for 2018. Four other titles will be released later this year.

The new edition of Tabunan will be sold at a launch price of P510. After the launch, the book will be sold at the Casa Gorordo Museum shop and other distributors for P600.
