NAGP looks to a bigger MVPSF in 2019
The National Golf Association of the Philippines (NAGP) plans to make the annual MVPSF Visayas Regional Match Play Championship bigger come next year.
Boom Coscolluela, NAGP’s executive director, told SunStar Cebu yesterday that they’re planning to add mid-amateur category so they can have more golfers.
“After talking to our friends here from Cebu, Bayani (Garcia) and Jovi (Neri), we are hoping to make it bigger. Aside from the elite amateurs, we have a plan to put up the mid-amateur category,” said Coscolluela.
For the third straight year, the MVSPF Visayas Regional Matchplay Championship was held at the Cebu Country Club (CCC) in Banilad, Cebu City. The tournament started last March 9 and will wrap up today.
He said that the mid-amateur category will be for the 25-above golfers, while the elite amateurs will remain open to amateur elite golfers. The two categories will likely have a different format.
“Maybe we keep the elite to match play while the mid amateur will be doing it probably the stroke play,” he said.
Coscolluela said that they have fewer players this year since there’s a conflict in some events in Manila and international golf competitions.
“We are hoping that numbers will pick up next year. Last year we had more participants. It’s conflict of schedule, we’re hoping to pick it up next year,” he said.
Coscolluela said that despite the smaller field the competition was good. /
