ARCILLA ON USE OF CH VEHICLE: SUE ME

- Councilor says he visited the zoo in Carmen to see how its owner and the town developed the upland area since the City is planning to amend its zoning ordinance and land use plan.

Cebu City Councilor Alvin Arcilla challenged his critics to file cases if he committed a violation when he used his City Hall-issued vehicle to visit a private safari in Carmen last Saturday.

Arcilla reiterated that his visit to the safari was an official trip.

“If I am at fault, I want to ask my critics to file a case in the proper court and not to embarrass me by saying I used my service vehicle for my family,” he said.

Arcilla said he visited the zoo to see how its owner and the local government unit (LGU) of Carmen developed the upland area.

He said that his office and the City Planning and Development Office are working on proposed amendments to the Cebu City Zoning Ordinance and the City Land Use Plan.

“My purpose in going there was to witness what they have done there. As legislators, it is not prohibited to go to other LGUs. As a legislator, you need to know the good practices of other LGUs,” he said.

Arcilla said one of the concerns they have encountered in the process of amending the zoning ordinance is on how to develop the upland areas without destroying the mountains.

Arcilla earlier said that his son and his son’s classmates went with him to the zoo since there was still space inside the van.

Mayor Tomas Osmeña said he will not file cases against Arcilla and an official of Barangay Cambinocot, whose City-issued vehicle was also spotted in a monastery in Carmen, since they committed no violation.
