Playwriting, directing workshops this May

-

On its fifth year, the Cornelio Faigao Memorial Annual Writers’ Workshop in Drama and Performance (CFMAW D & P), and in cooperation with the University of Cebu (UC) Theatre Workshop Company, will launch two playwriting workshops and a theater directing workshop.

The first playwriting workshop is for teenagers (aged 15 to 18 years old) and will be held from May 4 to 6, (9 a.m. to 6 p.m.) at the UC Main Mini-Theatre. Playwriting for adults will be from June 1 to 3 at the Institute of Religion and Culture, Cebu Hesed Seminar House, Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City.

For this year, instead of the usual acting workshop, CFMAW D & P shall conduct a basic theater directing workshop from June 15 to 17 at the UC Alicia Gotianuy AVR. Graduates of this course shall direct the D & P plays, which will be included in the Festival of Cebuano Plays slated in February 2019 as a contribution to the Arts and Culture Month celebration.

Established in 2014 by the daughter of the late Cornelio Faigao, Linda Faigao-Hall, the workshop is designed to give playwrights a plethora of resources that include writing original short plays, training actors to perform in them and training directors to direct them. The program then culminates in the plays’ public presentations of bare-bones productions.

The CFMAW D & P is funded by the Terence G. Hall Memorial Awards with a commitment of a five-year funding grant.
