New MCIA to serve 13 million passengers
An official of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) yesterday said the new passenger terminal at Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA), which will be operational by June 2018, can cater 13 million people.
Speaking during the Philippine Economic Briefing, DOTr Assistant Secretary Mark Stevens Pastor said the capacity of the existing MCIA terminal is 4.5 million, although MCIA is already catering about eight million passengers a year already.
The construction of the new MCIA terminal is part of the concession agreement with GMR Megawide Cebu Airport Corporation (GMCAC) with contract to manage the terminals for 25 years starting 2014.
“In aviation, eight Philippine airports received onestar ratings for on-time performance for the first time ever. A star rating that our airports are improving in times of timeliness which means following scheduled times of arrivals and departures,” Pastor said. /
