LTFRB summons Grab over ride cancellations

-

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) will summon ride-hailing services provider Grab over its drivers supposed cancellation of rides.

LTFRB chair Martin Delgra III said in a radio interview on Sunday, April 22, that the erring driver will face a fine.

He was reacting to a viral social media post about a Grab driver who refused to pick up a passenger.

In his post, Karl Davin Hui shared a conversation he had with a Grab driver.

“Sa Monday po, mag-i-issue kami ng (On Monday, April 23, we will issue a) show cause order against the driver and the operator, and obviously, also summon Grab as regards that particular incident,” Delgra said.

Based on the conversation shared by Hui, Delgra said it was clear that the driver wanted his passenger to cancel the ride.

He said this is probably due to Grab’s demerit system, wherein drivers who cancel rides could lose their accreditation.

According to the LTFRB, drivers who refuse to render service to the riding public will face a fine of P5,000 for the first offense, and P10,000 for the second offense.

Their unit will also be impounded for at least 30 days.

The issue about Grab’s supposed cancellation of rides came only days after the LTFRB ordered the suspension of its P2 per minute charges pending the LTFRB’s further review of the contested additional fare.
