PUPPET MAKERS GET FULL SINULOG PRIZE, WITHOUT PULLING STRINGS
Three months after the Sinulog, six winners finally received on Tuesday the balance of their prizes. The winners of the puppet and higante contests received P10,000 as compensation, on top of the balance the Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI) owed them. Two weeks ago, a pair of puppet makers complained that they didn’t receive the full amount of the cash prize that the competition organizers had promised. In an interview, Ryan Cuyos thanked the City Government and SFI for immediately acting on their concern. He and his wife Analyn were supposed to get P30,000 for placing third, but initially received only P20,000. The rest of it was “delayed, but still a blessing,” Ryan said.
Six winners of the 2018 Sinulog puppet and higante contests received yesterday P10,000 as compensation on top of the remaining balance the Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI) owes them.
Two weeks ago, a pair of puppet makers complained that they didn’t receive the full amount of the cash prize that the competition had promised.
In an earlier report, Analyn Cuyos said that her husband Ryan was supposed to receive P30,000 for placing third in the puppeteer competition, but he only got P20,000.
In the past years, SFI used to give away a cash prize of P50,000 for first place; P30,000 for second place; and P20,000 for the third placer of the higante and puppet contests.
But in last January’s Sinulog Grand Parade, the prizes were increased to P75,000, P45,000 and P30,000.
The SFI paid the remaining amount, plus a financial compensation. The turnover was headed by Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña.
Aside from Cuyos, puppet makers Orly Johnson Fuentes and Angelique Aranas also received the remaining balances of their respective cash prizes. Fuentes and Aranas won first place and second place, respectively.
Jerald Billones (first place), Esteria Pañares (second place) and Arnie Enjambre (3rd place), winners of the higante contest, also received the amount.
