10T JOBS ON LABOR DAY

Jobseekers can also avail themselves of free medical and dental services at the IEC Pavilion on May 1.

-

Up to 10,200 positions will be open to jobseekers during a local and overseas jobs fair that the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) 7 will organize on May 1, Labor Day.

The activities will be held at the International Eucharistic Congress (IEC) Pavilion in Mabolo, Cebu City.

Dole 7 Regional Director Alvin M. Villamor said the jobs fair is one of the highlights of the Labor Day celebration in coordination with the Cebu Provincial Government, Cebu City

Government and the Dumaguete City Government.

The local jobs fair spearheaded by the Cebu Provincial Public Employment Service Office will offer 2,464 job vacancies with 20 participating employers.

“These vacancies will be waiting for all jobseekers and those who want to land on a job on May 1. We are encouraging everyone interested to participate and take every opportunity that these job fairs offer,” said Villamor.

Among the positions waiting to be filled are customer service representatives, cashiers, sales clerks, drivers, kitchen staff, waiters, engineers, service crew, carpenter, masons, and technical support representatives.

PESO-Cebu City will also facilitate an overseas job fair with a total of 8,242 job orders coming from 15 participating recruitment agencies.

Jobseekers could choose from the many positions needed abroad such as nurses, engineers, bell boys, cook, service crew, receptionists, waiters or waitresses, room attendants, graphics designers, and restaurant workers, among others.

Registration for the jobs fair will start at 8 a.m. Applicants are advised to be ready with their resume, 2x2 photo, diploma or transcript of records and authenticated birth certificate.

DOLE 7 Public Information Officer Luchel Senarlo said the jobs fair is part of the agency’s Trabaho, Negosyo and Kabuhayan (TNK) program in coordination with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Senarlo said those who are still jobless or underemployed at present may avail themselves of the job opportunities available.

Also part of the TNK is the “Diskuwento Caravan,” where goods will be sold at a discounted price. The activity will be led by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board.

There will also be a business fair where the DTI will orient entrepreneurs on businesses that suit their skills and passion.

“On May 1, we will do away with the caravans because all the activities will be confined at the IEC building so that all the stakeholders, the job seekers and those who will avail themselves of the services will only have to go to one area, the IEC building,” Senarlo said.

The TNK will also include a medical and dental mission where surgeons will offer free circumcision for up to 100 boys.

On May 2, Dole 7 will focus on the problems affecting workers in the agriculture sector.
