COMELEC DELISTS 136 CANDIDATES
Among those disqualified were the ones whose ages did not qualify but adjusted their dates of birth in their COCs
At least 136 aspiring barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan candidates from Cebu were automatically disqualified after the Commission on Elections (Comelec) found discrepancies in their certificates of candidacy yesterday.
The 136 disqualified candidates were found just before the deadline of the filing of disqualification petitions against barangay and SK bets yesterday.
Lawyer Ferdinand Gujilde, Cebu Provincial election officer, said the 136 candidates were disqualified on the basis that they were either under or over the qualified age to run as SK candidates,
which 18 to 24 years old.
“Naay ubang kandidato sa SK nga bisag overage or underage sila, ilang giadjust ilang dates of birth sa ilang COC para makaqualify sila nga mudagan. Pero masakpan man gihapon namo kay among iverify ang ilang actual na edad sa ilang voter’s
registration,” Gujilde told SunStar Cebu yesterday.
Some candidates were also disqualified for filing their candidacy but failing to file their voter’s registration.
Gujilde said some of the candidates may have filed their COCs without knowing that the voter’s registration is part of their requirements for their candidacy.
“Basin nilansar sila pero wala sila kibaw nga deactivated na ilang registration,” Gujilde said.
Most of those who were disqualified were running for SK posts.
Gujilde said more disqualified candidates are expected to crop up as they are still conducting an ongoing assessment on all COCs.
But Gujilde said that there is still hope for disqualified candidates. He said that once the notice of disqualification is furnished to the disqualified candidates, they can appeal their case before the Comelec En Banc in Manila.
Gujilde advised aspiring candidates to be honest in filing their candidacies to avoid being disqualified. /
