ROAD CLOSED FOR TODAY’S KADAUGAN

- Lapu-Lapu City’s traffic official says Punta Engaño Road will be closed for up to four hours only, or as soon as the reenactment of the Kadaugan sa Mactan is over.

A portion of the Punta Engaño road leading to the Liberty Shrine in Barangay Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City will be closed to vehicular traffic starting at 6 a.m. today.

The road closure was scheduled to make way for the Kadaugan sa Mactan reenactment, which will start with a mass at 7 a.m.

Vehicles will not be allowed to enter the road, starting at the corner of the Mactan-Maribago road up to the corner of the Angasil access road.

Motorists coming from Punta Engaño going to the city proper were advised to take the Angasil access road to go to the Mactan Newtown Blvd. and on to M.L. Quezon Highway.

Those coming from M.L. Quezon Highway will also take the Newtown Blvd. and exit to the Angasil access road to reach Punta Engaño.

Roderick Daño, the deputy chief of the City Traffic Management System (CTMS), said the closure will last for a maximum of four hours.

“We will open Punta Engaño Road as soon as the reenactment is over,” he told Superbalita Cebu.

Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Michael Dino will give the keynote address during the 498th celebration of the historic event, where Datu Lapu-Lapu defeated and killed Ferdinand Magellan.

Meanwhile, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration officer-in-charge Oscar Tabada reminded those who will watch the reenactment to protect themselves from the heat with umbrellas or caps, with temperatures going as high as 36 degrees Celsius today.
