‘Swindler’ remains in jail after facing 17 more warrants

-

Seventeen more warrants of arrest were served to the woman accused of allegedly scamming P30 million to P60 million from her victims, the Regional Special Operations Group (Rsog) said.

The warrants were issued by the courts in the cities of Cebu, Naga and Talisay.

Senior Insp. Ricardo Tero, Rsog 7 deputy chief, said that Maria Victoria Ongcol Torralba, 36, is detained in the female dormitory of the Cebu City Jail.

She managed to post bail of more than P300,000 for the first 14 warrants of estafa against her, but she was kept in custody after the 17 more warrants were served to her.

Tero said that her alleged victims, most of whom are retired soldiers and teachers, flocked to their office when they heard about her claiming they lost amounts ranging from P150,000 to P3.5 million to Torralba.

“Some already filed cases against her but the arrest warrant has yet to be released and it’s still pending in court,” the Rsog-7 deputy chief said.

In an earlier interview, Torralba promised to settle her obligation to her clients.

Tero said that they are stilpursuing leads on two of Torralba’s alleged cohorts, who helped her in her schemes.

“She now has 31 counts of estafa and syndicated estafa,” Tero said.

Torralba was arrested last Wednesday night in Barangay Kasambagan, Cebu City.

Based on initial investigation, she allegedly swindled 80 persons.
