Drugs, 51 phones, P100K cash seized in CPDRC
Forty-one small sachets of suspected shabu, drug paraphernalia, 51 cellular phones and at least P100,000 cash were seized by authorities during a greyhound operation inside the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC).
Supt. Mario Baquiran, head of the Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC) detailed in the CPDRC, said that the 1.23 grams of illegal drugs worth P11,000 were seized inside the cell where high-profile inmates and 25 others were detained.
They are still investigating who owns the contraband.
Cellular phones, on the other hand, were recovered from the cell where suspected drug personality Alvaro “Barok” Alvaro was detained.
Supt. Rene Kyamco, head of the Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB), said that the units will be brought to their cyber crime unit for investigation.
As for the cash seized, the treasurer of the cooperative inside the CPDRC said that the money was their earnings from the operation of their canteen.
However, Roberto “Bobby” Legaspi, acting warden of CP- DRC, said that they will still seize the money because these are still considered contraband, according to the Commission on Audit.
He also said that the cooperative inside the CPDRC is not legitimate since it is not registered under the Cooperative Development Authority.
The greyhound operation was conducted by the CPDRC management together with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 7, PIB of the Cebu Provincial Police Office, Task Group Cebu of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and PMFC.
Earl Rallos, chief operations officer of PDEA7, said they observed that fewer contraband are now being seized during operation inside the facility.
“It only shows that the management of CPDRC has been very strict and that’s why we have minimize the entry of contraband here,” he said.
Legaspi said they are no longer surprised with what they found during their operation.
He said it will be up to Gov. Hilario Davide III on what to do next. /
