President Rodrigo Duterte’s net trust rating went down by 10 percentage points, declining one grade to “very good” in the first quarter of 2018 from “excellent” in the last quarter, the latest survey by the Social Weather Stations (SWS) showed.

The March 23 to 27 survey found that 76 percent of adult Filipinos have “much trust” in Duterte, while only 10 percent have “little trust” in him. About 14 percent were ambivalent on the matter.

The poll results yielded a net trust score of “very good” +65, down by 10 percentage points to the “excellent” +75 rate that the President earned in December 2017.

Duterte’s net trust rating, however, was similar to his September 2017’s “very good” +60.

The SWS noted that the Chief Executive suffered declines, but still managed to maintain “excellent” net trust scores in Visayas (+70 from +76) and Mindanao (+89 from +94).

The President’s net trust score in Balance Luzon remained “very good,” although it fell by three percentage points from +56 to +53.

The SWS poll showed that Duterte posted an “excellent” net trust rating among college students (+73 from +76), but merely received “very good” among non-elementary graduates (+68 from +70), elementary graduates (+58 from +73), and high school graduates (+66 from +78).

In a statement, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque Jr. said the Palace welcomed the latest results of the SWS survey, which showed a “significant” trust in Duterte, despite “unending” tirades hurled against the President.

“We are, thus, grateful for our people’s vote of confidence with significant trust in the President, amid being subject to unending criticisms and attacks,” the Palace official said.

“Rest assured that the President will continue to steer the ship of State until we reach a drug-free destination where the country’s macroeconomic fundamentals would be strong and resilient so Filipinos could lead comfortable lives,” he added.

The SWS interviewed around 1,200 adult respondents, using sampling error margins of ±3 percentage points for national percentages, and ±6 percentage points each for Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
