Japanese food festival at Golden Prince

- CHELZEE G. SALERA / Writer

The Golden Week is here and the best way to celebrate it is to eat Japanese food. So take a week to immerse in Japanese culture by tasting the tender sashimi and delectable sushi paired with tempuras. If that’s not enough, have a big bowl of donburi or grab a big bento box, because Golden Prince Hotel and Suites joins Japan in its long holiday by featuring its newest annual Japanese Food Festival at Le’Mon Restaurant.

A series of national holidays is what the Golden Week in Japan refers to. The Golden Week in Japan officially begins on April 29 and lasts until May 5. April 29 is a national holiday in Japan and is celebrated as Showa Day which signifies the birthday of Emperor Showa who passed away in 1989. The holiday is celebrated to look back on the hardships of the Showa period and to reflect on the future of Japan.

On May 3, 1947 the Constitution of Japan came into effect; this is also celebrated as a national holiday, and on May 5 Japan celebrates Children’s Day, a day to pray for the health and growth of boys and girls. The days in between are clumped in the holidays and are recognized as national holidays as well to allow workers a weeklong vacation.

For Golden Prince, the Golden Week started on April 25 and will end on May 1. The food festival is meant to be a preview of the Golden Week celebration in Japan.

The Japanese food festival still comes alongside the usual cuisines that Le’Mon Restaurant regularly offers.
