Cop survives ambush
A police officer survived an ambush by two motorcycle-riding men after leaving a vigil for the slain cop, PO2 Kenneth Pogoy, in Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City on Sunday dawn.
PO3 Raymond Zozobrado, 37, who is pursuing further studies, escaped unscathed together with his wife when they were shot at by an unidentified assailant while they were on board their Mazda Bongo at 2 a.m.
“Two men on board a motorcycle who were tailing the victim shot him in the driver’s side four times while the car was near the flyover. The gunmen fled in the direction of Barangay Pardo,” Chief Insp. Randy Caballes, chief of the Mambaling Police, said.
Investigators recovered four empty shells of a caliber 9mm from the scene.
Caballes said they are looking at personal grudge and the victim’s work as a police officer as the possible motives in the shooting.
Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Director Chief Supt. Robert Quenery said he asked investigators to deepen the probe on the incident.
“PO3 Raymond Zozobrado has been assigned for a while in the intelligence community in the past and we are looking into his work even when he was an intelligence officer. Or maybe in his personal dealings,” he said.
Zozobrado is assigned at the regional headquarters while he is taking a career course at the Regional Training Center.
